Advanced Pigmentation Treatments

At By Demi Skin Clinic, pigmentation is never treated as a surface level concern. We take a results-driven, medical approach focusing on restoring a clear, even complexion while strengthening overall skin health.

With years of combined industry experience, regulated training, and a patient first philosophy, every treatment plan is carefully tailored. We don’t just treat what’s visible we investigate and address the underlying causes of pigmentation to achieve natural, long lasting results.

Pigmentation can be influenced by a variety of factors, including sun exposure, hormonal changes, post-acne inflammation, and lifestyle triggers. That’s why our approach is comprehensive targeting both the cause and the condition to reveal brighter, healthier, more radiant skin.

We treat a wide range of pigmentation concerns, including:

  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Melasma (hormonal pigmentation)
  • Acne scarring & post-inflammatory pigmentation
  • Sun damage & age spots
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Dull or discoloured skin

Understanding Pigmentation

Pigmentation occurs when excess melanin (the pigment responsible for skin colour) is produced and deposited unevenly in the skin. However, not all pigmentation is the same, and this is where many treatments fail.

Pigmentation Can Affect Different Skin Layers:

  • Epidermal (Surface Layer): More responsive to certain treatments and peels
  • Dermal (Deeper Layer): More stubborn, long-lasting, and requires advanced medical treatments
  • Mixed Pigmentation: Combination of both layers, needing a carefully balanced approach

Many over the counter products only work on the surface layer of the skin, which is why clients often see little to no improvement or temporary results that quickly fade.

BOOK SKIN ASSESSMENT

At By Demi Skin Clinic, we never guess we assess. We identify pigmentation depth, accurately differentiate between pigmentation, melasma, and hyperpigmentation, and understand underlying triggers such as sun damage, hormonal influences, inflammation, and previous treatments. This allows us to predict how your skin will respond and create a treatment plan tailored for safe, consistent, and long-lasting results.

  • Pigmentation

General pigmentation includes dark patches caused by sun exposure, aging, inflammation, acne marks, or lifestyle factors. The depth varies, and treatment success depends entirely on accurate diagnosis.

  • Melasma

Melasma is a chronic and hormonally driven condition, often triggered by pregnancy, hormonal imbalance, birth control, sun exposure. It typically appears symmetrically on the cheeks, forehead, and upper lip. Melasma often sits deep within the skin, making it resistant to topical products alone and highly sensitive to improper treatments.

  • Hyperpigmentation

Hyperpigmentation usually occurs after acne, skin injury, burns, aggressive treatments. This condition is common across all skin tones but is especially delicate in deeper skin tones, where incorrect treatment can worsen discolouration instead of improving it.

Cosmelan Peel Program Information

The Cosmelan Peel is a professional depigmentation system designed to treat stubborn pigmentation like melasma, sun damage, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. It’s not just a “peel” in the traditional sense it works more like a melanin-regulating program.

How Cosmelan works

Instead of only exfoliating the surface, Cosmelan targets the root of pigmentation:

1. Inhibits tyrosinase (key enzyme in melanin production)

The formula contains active ingredients that suppress tyrosinase, which is essential in the melanin production pathway. By slowing this down, less pigment is formed.

2. Breaks down existing pigmentation

It accelerates cell turnover, helping to lift and shed already pigmented keratinocytes.

3. Controls melanocyte activity long-term

This is the key difference: it helps regulate overactive melanocytes (the cells producing pigment), which is why it’s effective for chronic conditions like melasma.

Why the 6-month home care is essential (not optional)

The in-clinic mask is only phase 1. The real treatment is the ongoing regulation phase at home.

Here’s why:

1. Pigmentation is a chronic condition, not a one-time issue

Melanocytes have “memory.” Without continued suppression, they can easily become overactive again—especially with triggers like UV, heat, hormones, or inflammation.

2. Prevents rebound hyperpigmentation

Stopping early often leads to pigment coming back, sometimes darker. The home care keeps tyrosinase inhibited while the skin stabilizes.

3. Gradual normalization of the skin cycle

It takes multiple skin cycles (roughly 4–6 months) to fully replace pigmented cells and rebalance melanocyte behavior.

4. Maintains anti-inflammatory control

Inflammation is a major trigger for pigmentation. The home products reduce subclinical inflammation that can reactivate pigment.

5. Strengthens skin barrier while treating pigment

Professional peels disrupt the barrier. The home phase ensures controlled healing without triggering further pigmentation.
